Biography
As a native of St. Louis Missouri, Steve absorbed the blues, jazz, country and rock and roll playing on the radio stations and in the local clubs and bars. You'll hear the sounds of the blues in many of Steve’s songs, making its presence felt on the jazzier tunes as well as tunes showcasing the slide guitar.
A move to Wellfleet Massachusetts in 1992 signaled a punctuation mark in Steve’s compositions and playing career. While Cape Cod was not exactly blues central, it still had a thriving music scene and many players and audiences who appreciated soulful vocals and blues-based material.
Now, many years later, Steve is still playing and writing, with two albums to his credit: “Hurricane”, available here and on I-Tunes, Amazon and www.cdbaby.com, and “Boppin' the Blues”, currently out of print, but available as a download on this site. Steve has also recorded with Willy and the Po' Boys, The House Band, Skeeter and The Buzztones, and John "The Rev" Nelson.
Steve Morgan and the Kingfish are working on a new CD of original material, which should be available in early 2012.
Steve performs regularly on Cape Cod with his band, Steve Morgan and the Kingfish, a mainstay of the blues and roots rock scene on Cape Cod since the band's inception in November, 1992. The current lineup includes Steve, guitar and vocals, James Petcoff, bass and vocals, drummer Ed Wanamaker, and last but certainly not least, Bryant Edwards on congas ands vocals.
The Kingfish also feature, time and space permitting, a horn section, which may include John Wolf, trombone, Dan Sullivan, sax, Paul Dinsmore, trumpet, and/or Karl Hoyt, cornet. Top notch vocals and harmonies, a powerful horn section and great tunes make the current lineup of the Kingfish a hugely dynamic and soulful group.
Steve is the host of the Thursday Morning Blues Cruise, which can be heard on alternate Thursday mornings 9:30-12:30 EST, WOMR 92.1, Provincetown MA, or on WFMR, 91.3, Brewster, MA, or on the web at www.WOMR.org.
Steve has played with, shared stages and opened for Jimmy Rodgers, Barbara Carr, Oliver Sain, Henry Townsend, Silver Cloud, The Nighthawks, Ansen Funderburg and the Rockets, Johnny Johnson, James Crutchfield, Dave MacKenzie and many others.
